Northfield YMCA Unveils Land-Marking Sign During Ceremony

The sign, created by Northfield High School students, mark the site of the future home of the Northfield Area Family YMCA.

The sign marking the site for the future home of the Northfield Area Family YMCA on Honeylocust Drive was unveiled to the public during a ceremony Sunday, Nov. 20. 

Members of Y’s Board of Directors—as well as Y employees and volunteers, supporters and residents—attended the event, which was conducted under sunny, yet chilly conditions. 

Speaking during the 20-minute ceremony were Y Board Chair Mari Aylin, Northfield Mayor , Northfield High School Principal , Emmaus Church Senior Pastor , Northfield business leader and longtime Y supporter , and Northfield YMCA Executive Director and CEO .

Serving as the backdrop to the speakers was the land-marking sign designed and constructed by members. DECA is a business club for high schoolers interested in marketing, finance, hospitality and management.

Many of the students taking part in the community service project—as well as DECA Advisor Julie Wolner—attended Sunday’s event.

Fundraising efforts are underway for the , which is expected to open to the public in 2013.
