Northfield Council Delays Decision on TIGER Trail Construction Bids
In a close 4-3 vote, the council decided to give city staff time to do more research and potentially "rescope" the project, the Northfield News reported.
The Northfield City Council delayed its action in selecting a bid for the controversial TIGER Trail project Tuesday night, in a tight 4-3 vote.
According to Northfield News, while all council members were unhappy with recently submitted project bids and that finding a safe crossing for pedestrians and bikers across Hwy. 3 was important, that's were the agreeing ended Tuesday night.
Construction bids came back at $825,000 over budget, bringing the $2.34 million price tag to $3.3 million. The city has already spent $300,000 on the trail, and has received about $600,000 from the Minnesota Department of Transportation and a federal transportation grant of $1.06 million, the newspaper reported.
With the costs growing, and uncertainty about what would happen if changes were made to the project, the motion to delay the action was brought forward in order to give city staff time to do more research and potentially “rescope” the project, the article said.
