UPDATE: Body of Northfield Native Recovered from Chippewa River

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire confirmed the identity as being David P. Rodgers in a press release on Tuesday. Firefighters recovered the body of Rodgers—who fell in the Chippewa River in April—on Monday night.

UPDATE, 4:30 P.M. TUESDAY: The body found in the Chippewa River in Eau Claire, WI on Monday night is that of Northfield native David P. Rodgers, according to a press release from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

Rodgers, 20, a student at UW-Eau Claire, reportedly fell into the river from an on-campus pedestrian bridge in late April.

Here is a death notice for Rodgers that appeared Tuesday afternoon on the Benson & Langehough Funeral Home website.

David Rodgers, age 20 of Northfield, passed away April 19, 2013, in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, where he was a student at the University of Wisconsin.

ORIGINAL STORY, TUESDAY MORNING: Media outlets in Eau Claire, WI are reporting that a body was recovered in the Chippewa River near the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire campus Monday night.

The Eau Claire Leader-Telegram and WEAU.com say firefighters pulled the body out of the river near the Short Street bridge.

The body had not be identified.

UW-Eau Claire Police Sgt. Joel Field told the Leader-Telegram that the identification process was underway, but there is no timetable for completion.

UW-Eau Claire police are handling the investigation.

In late April, UW-Eau Claire student and Northfield native David P. Rodgers, 20, reportedly fell into the river from an on-campus pedestrian bridge and was presumed dead.

A fire department battalion chief told WEAU.com that he was not aware of any other people currently missing on the river.
