DEATH NOTICE: Sabina Karbowski, 97

Sabina Misiuda Karbowski was born December 22, 1915, in Detroit, Michigan, to Joseph and Katherine (Podsada) Misiuda.  She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic Faith and graduated from Cass Technical High School in 1933.  She received her nurses training at St. Mary’s Hospital in Detroit, graduating in 1938.  She worked for a time in a doctor’s office and then went to work for J. L. Hudson Company.  She remained with the Hudson Company for 20 years, first working as a home visit nurse and later as the “in-house” nurse for the department store.

On October 12, 1957, Sabina married Frank Karbowski.  After marriage they remained in Detroit.  In 1963, Sabina began working for Wayne County (Michigan) as the nurse for the juvenile detention hall.  Frank passed away in 1970.  Sabina remained with Wayne County and was the nurse for the D.J. Healy Home for Neglected Children until retiring in 1981. In 1990, she moved to Northfield to be near her daughter and family.

Sabina was the kind of person we all aspire to be – loving, kind and generous.  Her family was the center of her life and she was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and sister.
She will be greatly missed.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Patrick Edwards of rural Northfield and her grandchildren Alexandra and William.  She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister Emily McCafferty and brothers Frank and Arthur Misiuda.

Sabina passed away at home in Greenvale Township on Friday morning, July 26, 2013, at the age of 97.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 9:30AM Saturday, August 10, 2013, at St. Blase Catholic Church, Sterling Heights, Michigan.  Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Detroit.  Visitation will be 2-9PM Friday, August 9, 2013 at Wasik Funeral Home, Warren, Michigan.
