The Contented Cow to Throw 'Movember' Kick-Off Party

The Northfield pub is hoping to spread awareness about men's health, according to the Northfield News.

Since 2003, men around the world have been letting their upper lip hairs go wild each November, or "Movember" rather, in the name of men's health.

Yes, that time in which men grow mustaches to raise funds and awareness for men's health concerns such as prostate and testicular cancer, is upon us again. And Northfield's The Contented Cow is starting off Movember with a celebration Friday, Nov. 1.

According to Northfield News, the party will be sponsored by the craft brewery Traveler Beer Company, whose logo is a mustache. From each pint sold of Traveler’s beer during November, 25 cents will be donated to the Movember campaign:

“It’s something we’ve been thinking about doing for a long time,” said the Cow’s co-owner Norman Butler. “It’s really about being a part of the global citizenry.”

Movember began in Australia and has since grown to be a global movement each year, according to the official website for the U.S. charity. Men start clean-shaven and then grow and groom their mustaches for the entire month. Women can also participate in the month-long festivities, however, no mustache is required.

The party at the Cow will run from 7-9 p.m. Friday, with plenty of mustache-themed goodies in house, Northfield News reported. If enough people pledge to join the Movember movement and grow out their mustaches, a party with a best and worst mustache contest will be held at the end of the month.

The Contented Cow is located at 302B Division St. S. in Northfield. For more information on Movember or to join the movement, go to us.movember.com.
