Fresh Summer Vegetables, Fashion Accessories, and Nordic Music at Saturday’s Riverwalk Market Fair

Nordic Traditional Music, fresh-picked summer vegetables from local farmers, and a variety of Artisan breads, pastries and savories are just some of what you will find at Riverwalk Market Fair on Saturday, June 29.

Seasonal Produce From Local Farmers, Artisan Foods, Art and Fine Craft

Kale, spinach, salad greens, radishes, bedding plants, meat, eggs, and if the weather continues warm, zucchini, snap peas, and fresh flowers will be available from local farmers.  Artisan foods include a variety of fresh-baked breads, pastries, tarts and quiches from Martha’s Eats and Treats, Crack of Dawn Artisan Breads, Rebecca’s Kouzina, and Archibald Mills.

Watercolors, photographs, ceramics, glass art, hand crafted accessories, and jewelry are among the art and fine crafts for sale.  Youth entrepreneurs will offer fresh produce.  (For a complete list of the vendors scheduled for this Saturday visit www.RiverwalkMarketFair.org.)

Featured Farmer Mississippi Hills

Everyone asks about the kale chips.  “Last week I totally sold out of them,” said Adam Weeks, who with partner Leslie Orth, farms Mississippi Hills CSA.  “The trick to good kale chips is to stir several times while drying so the chips crisp up.”  Mississippi Hills also carries fresh produce, vegetable plants, fresh cut flowers, salsa and flavorful black raspberry jelly.  2013 is Adam’s first year as partner on the farm, after working there in 2012.

Featured artist Angie’s Accessories

Angie Frawley started her business making decorative headbands without knowing where she was going to sell them.  Her mom suggested Riverwalk Market Fair, and 2013 is her second hear as a vendor.  Headbands continue as her best seller, followed by her affordably priced beaded necklaces.  A Northfield High School graduate, Angie now lives in Lonsdale.

Live traditional Nordic Music by Multe

With a name like Bjork (Norwegian meaning “birch”) one can see why Jon Bjork plays Nordic traditional music.  Jon’s first instrument was guitar, which he still plays in several bands.  Accordion is his instrument of choice for the Scandinavian and Nordic Traditional music played by Multe.  The band takes its name from the Scandinavian root word for “cloudberry,” the rare slow-growing sub-arctic bramble fruit found throughout the Nordic countries.  Joining Jon on Saturday will be Multe members Glenn Lee, Bruce Jensen, Doug Wornson, and Jerry Johnson. 

Folkdancing for Children and Adults

A potpourri of folkdances with audience participation will be presented by the Friday Folkdancers and an afterschool dance and music class.  Kate Stuart leads The  Friday Folkdancers jointly sponsored by the Northfield Arts Guild and the Northfield Senior Center, and a Northfield homeschool/afterschool dance and music class.   Come watch and participate in folkdances from around the world and from the eras of Shakespeare and Jane Austen.

Riverwalk Market Fair is a Saturday open-air market located on Bridge Square in historic downtown Northfield.  This one-of-a-kind European-style market is open Saturdays from June through October.
