Another Day, Another Weather Threat

Another day, another weather threat.
During a month in which Northfield has seen more clouds than sun, we are facing more rain and potentially severe weather late Tuesday night and Wednesday.

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for Rice County. Here is the text of the outlook:

THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR PORTIONS OF CENTRAL MINNESOTA...SOUTH CENTRAL MINNESOTA...SOUTHEAST MINNESOTA...SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA AND WEST CENTRAL MINNESOTA. .DAY ONE...THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT AN ISOLATED NON SEVERE THUNDERSTORM IS POSSIBLE THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING. THERE IS A SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS PORTIONS OF WEST CENTRAL THROUGH SOUTHERN MINNESOTA AFTER MIDNIGHT. DAMAGING WINDS AND LARGE HAIL ARE THE MAIN SEVERE WEATHER THREATS. .DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...WEDNESDAY THROUGH MONDAY THUNDERSTORMS...POSSIBLY SEVERE...MAY BE ONGOING IN THE MORNING OVER FAR SOUTHERN MINNESOTA...MAINLY ALONG AND SOUTH OF THE MINNESOTA RIVER VALLEY. DAMAGING WINDS AND LARGE HAIL WILL BE THE MAIN SEVERE WEATHER THREATS. A CHANCE FOR THUNDERSTORMS RETURNS ON FRIDAY AND CONTINUES INTO SUNDAY. THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT IS LOW AT THIS TIME.

Here is Northfield’s forecast for the next couple of days from the National Weather Service:
TUESDAY NIGHT—A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 63. East northeast wind 5 to 10 mph.
WEDNESDAY—Showers and thunderstorms likely before 10am, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 10am and 1pm, then scattered showers and thunderstorms after 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 76. Northeast wind 5 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT—Partly cloudy, with a low around 56. North northwest wind 5 to 10 mph.
THURSDAY—Mostly sunny, with a high near 78. North wind around 5 mph.
THURSDAY NIGHT—Partly cloudy, with a low around 58. East wind around 5 mph.
