Election season is nearly done and Northfield City Council and mayoral candidates have released their finance reports that were due last week to the state's Campaign Finance and Public Disclosure Board. Some candidates have raised thousands of dollars during the election cycle. With Election Day only hours away, some candidates still have cash on hand, at least according to the most recent reports. "Signs only matter if you can read them at a distance—no fancy fonts, sans serif is best, red and white is the best combination, big letters, relatively few words,” said Steve Schier, a professor of political science at Carleton College. To the Editor: Rhonda Pownell will get my vote for mayor on November 6. In her tenure on the city council, Rhonda has made thoughtful votes, based on her thorough preparation and her skills at listening to citizens, city staff and her council colleagues. She brings a statewide context to the table through her work as a member of the board of the League of Minnesota Cities. She also brings an admirable commitment to service to her work as a councilor. Collaboration is a strong value for Rhonda, and she has the ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups. A member of the city’s Economic Development Authority, she has worked to support local businesses and to raise Northfield’s visibility as a good place to establish new …

In this video, Rhonda Pownell, a candidate for Northfield mayor, tells you why you should vote for her.
No questions. Sixty-three seconds. Why should you be elected? It was that simple. Northfield Patch spent the past few weeks meeting with candidates in Northfield-related races to have them tell you, the constituent, why you should vote for them in their respective races. They could talk about anything they wanted: their experience, the issues or why they're a better option than their opponents. We wanted to take this approach because if you ran into a candidate on the street and he or she had your attention for a minute, what would they say to get your vote? In this video, Rhonda Pownell, a candidate for Northfield mayor, tells you why you should vote for her. Also be sure to read the Patch Q&A with Pownell. You can see video of her …
