Ganey, who represents Ward 4, has accepted a job with Middlebury College in Vermont. He came to Northfield nearly 20 years ago and has worked as a development officer for Carleton College since 2003. Councilor Betsey Buckheit told Patch that Ganey will be missed when he leaves. “He made an immediate positive impact on the Council when he was elected two years ago. Northfield City Councilor Will Resign from Seat

Ward 4 representative Patrick Ganey has accepted a position with Middlebury College in Vermont.

Northfield City Councilor Patrick Ganey has accepted a job with Middlebury College in Vermont and will resign from his Ward 4 seat on the Council. When his resignation happens, however, is still up in the air, Ganey told Patch. “I’ve accepted a job but I’m still here,” he said. “While I am on the Council, I am on the Council and I am fully engaged in its deliberations. I take my responsibilities very seriously and don’t want that to be compromised.” Ganey, who came to Northfield nearly 20 years ago and has worked as a development officer for Carleton College since 2003, said a lot of details are still being worked out with Middlebury. He said with a wife, three children and a house to sell, it’s unknown when he’ll actually leave Northfield…

The vote passed 5-1, with Councilor Rhonda Pownell dissenting and Councilor Suzie Nakasian absent.

The Northfield City Council on Tuesday moved one step closer to building a new Safety Center by approving a $6.28 million lease-purchasing agreement with U.S. Bank. The vote passed 5-1, with Councilor Rhonda Pownell dissenting and Councilor Suzie Nakasian absent. The lease-to-own agreement is for 20 years at a 2.85 percent interest rate. That money will be combined with $1 million from the city’s general fund ($500,000), capital reserve fund ($400,000) and IT equipment replacement fund ($100,000) for the $7.28 million project, which will include a new police facility on a 4.2-acre site at 1601 Riverview Dr. behind Perkins Restaurant. Ganey Concedes, DFLer Mike Obermueller to Face John Kline for Congress Seat

Ahead of the fourth ballot, Northfield's Patrick Ganey conceded to Eagan's Mike Obermueller for the DFL endorsement for Minnesota's Second Congressional District. Obermueller will face Lakeville's John Kline, a five-term Republican incumbent.

And then there was one. Eagan's Mike Obermueller, a former state representative, was endorsed as the Second Congressional District's DFL candidate on Saturday at Rosemount High School after Northfield's Patrick Ganey conceded before the fourth ballot. Obermueller, who then received unanimous support, will face Republican John Kline, a five-term incumbent from Lakeville. Kathleen Gaylord, Dakota County commissioner and former mayor of South St. Paul, conceded earlier in the contest.  For a full recap of the event, read our live blog above. _________ Second Congressional District DFLers gather at Rosemount High School today to select their nominee to challenge Republican incumbent John Kline in the November elections. Election 2012

DFL Endorsement for Second Congressional District to Be Decided Saturday

Second Congressional District DFLers will gather at Rosemount High School on Saturday to select their nominee to challenge Republican incumbent John Kline in the November elections.

Second Congressional District DFLers will gather at Rosemount High School on Saturday to select their nominee to challenge Republican incumbent John Kline in the November elections. Kline received the unanimous endorsement from Republicans at the GOP convention at Shakopee Junior High School last week. But thanks to February's court-panel redistricting of Minnesota, Kline faces a tougher road in a second district that now includes DFL-leaning portions of northern Dakota County, as well as southern Washington County, and doesn't include Republican strongholds such as Carver County. Candidates for this Saturday's DFL endorsement include Patrick Ganey, a member of the Northfield City Council, Kathleen Gaylord, a Dakota County commissioner and…

Kline Gets GOP Nod, Expects Fierce Race

Congressman John Kline received the unanimous endorsement of Second District Republicans on Saturday, and now expects a fierce fight in the newly redrawn district he's represented for a decade.

U.S. Congressman John Kline, (R-Second District) of Lakeville, received the unanimous endorsement from Republicans at the GOP convention at Shakopee Junior High School last week, and is now preparing for what could shape up to be his fiercest election battle in years as he seeks a sixth term. Thanks to February's court-panel redistricting, Kline faces a tougher road in a second district which now includes DFL-leaning portions of northern Dakota County, as well as southern Washington County, and doesn't include Republican strongholds such as Carver County. It's also attracted what some consider to be more viable Democratic challengers who would otherwise stay out of the race since the old district leaned so far to the Republican Party. …
