What Should Go Here?: Kurry Kabab

This feature asks residents how Northfield should fill its vacant spaces.

Northfield's business landscape is constantly changing—and part of that change includes vacant properties peppered throughout the community. There’s little doubt residents have their own ideas on how they'd like to see these spaces filled. In this feature, Northfield Patch asks you to imagine the future of these spaces. Do you see a new restaurant? A new store? Something no one else has considered? Share your thoughts in the comments below. In this edition, we start off with the former Kurry Kabab space. __________________ What was it? Kurry Kabab Vacant: Since October 2012 Current owner: Heritage Square LLC owns the strip mall Age of structure: 2004 History: After seven years in Northfield, Kurry Kabab chef-owner Satinder "Pappu" Singh …

My understanding is that Vietnamese food is less spicy and sweet (but can still be spicy), and uses much more seafood...and almost no soy sauce. For the record. There is a HUGE difference between American Chinese food and actual Chinese food. Our "Chinese" food is much sweeter, and more things are fried.   more ›

Carbone’s to Open Aug. 15, If Not Sooner

Additional construction at the restaurant in River Park Mall causes ownership to push back grand opening.

The co-owner of Carbone’s Pizza and Sports Bar in River Park Mall says there is a good reason the restaurant’s grand opening will be delayed for up to a couple of weeks: Construction. Ownership has decided to enlarge the restaurant’s space—at 620 Water St.—into a portion of the neighboring parcel in the mall, said co-owner Scott LaMotte. Once construction in complete, the eatery will be nearly 4,000 square feet. “Right now, we’re thinking Aug. 15 will be the drop-dead last day that we’d open,” said LaMotte. “We’re hoping to open a few days earlier, but that is up to the construction.” The restaurant originally was scheduled to open Aug. 1. Work inside the future Carbone’s has been ongoing for a number of weeks, said LaMotte. Recently, …

Northfield Culver's Has New Ownership

Thomas and Julie Zenk owned the restaurant since 2008 after transforming it from the former Southgate Cinema.

Rumors have swirled for the past year that the Culver's of Northfield was struggling and going to close for business. It turns out that wasn't true, but the restaurant has changed ownership, according to the Northfield News. Folks will now purchase their ButterBurgers and cement mixers from Steve and Jim Wernimont, who own two Culver's in Rochester, the paper reported. "We knew there would be an opportunity here," Steve Wernimont told the News. "Many years ago, we thought Northfield would be a good location. It seemed like a community that would support a Culver’s." Thomas and Julie Zenk owned the restaurant since 2008 after transforming it from the former Southgate Cinema.

Used to love Culvers. The last time we ordered a banana shake, 2 of them actually, the banana was still whole and it was milky, not a shake at all. We called to complan but got nothing other than "sorry". And they need to make sure their people on the drive through can speak and understand english. One time the guy couldnt understand what we wanted and we couldnt understand what he was saying. …   more ›

Northfield KFC to Reopen With New Owner

An opening date hasn't been determined.

You won't need to drive as far to get your bucket of the Colonel's Special Recipe. The Northfield KFC will reopen in the near future, according to a classified on the Northfield News. "KFC IS BACK! Taking Applications Nov 1st 11a-2p & 5p-7p 2300 Gleason Ct - Nfld," the classified reads. Brad Smith of Elko is purchasing the building from current owner Gary Tiedeken, according to the Northfield News. KFC closed in January. Tiedeken told Patch that sales hadn't been what they needed to be, forcing him and his wife, Kim, to close the Northfield location. They also own the Faribault KFC. The Northfield KFC opened in February 2010. Tiedeken said the business once had 40 employees, but the week the restaurant closed, there were about 15, as he …

I hope they do re-open but hope the service is better. They never once got our drive through orders right. The inside of the restaurant was filthy any time I was there. Tried the buffet once, there were a lot of empty spots, food wasnt stirred so looked gross, the people working there never wore gloves or anything, they picked up food with their hands. I am suprised they didnt get closed down by …   more ›

Northfield Pizza Hut Opens—Will You Order?

Will you be a Pizza Hut consumer?

The new Northfield Pizza Hut is now open. Pizza Hut, one of America's largest pizza chains, opened at 1500 Clinton Lane, Suite D, which is the strip mall that houses Snap Fitness, L.A. Nails and formerly America's Mattress. The pizza chain is currently hiring for a general manager, assistant general manager, delivery drivers, shift manager and team managers for a new Northfield location, according to its career website. Pizza Hut was previously in Northfield at the location that now is home to George's Vineyard. With another pizza joint in town, do you plan to order Pizza Hut?

As of Saturday, Subway, located at the corner of Hwy. 3 and Hwy. 19, has its drive-thru lane open all hours of the day and night.

Hungry Northfielders have a new late-night option. Real late. As of Saturday, Subway, located at the corner of Hwy. 3 and Hwy. 19, has its drive-thru lane open all hours of the day and night. It's likely a welcome sign for many late-night eaters. Business Already Picking Up at Northfield's Tokyo Grill

In just its second day open, new restaurant serves large lunch crowd.

It won't be a well-kept secret for very long. The Tokyo Grill opened on the south side of Northfield on Wednesday, and business has steadily picked up since, according to restaurant manager Gui Qiu. “So far things have gone pretty smoothly,” Qiu said Thursday afternoon. “We didn't advertise, so it was pretty slow (at lunch) the first day, but it got a lot busier for dinner.” Qiu said word of mouth advertising must be working, because the dining area was mostly full for the lunch hour on Thursday, and he expected business to pick up even more Thursday night. “We had one customer who came in three times yesterday, and I saw another girl who came in with her mom for lunch and brought back two friends for dinner.” Customers who ate lunch at …
