The game brought in more than $1,500 to support Northfield families fighting cancer.
Northfield High School's faculty basketball team eked out a 58-54 overtime victory over the student team in the school's annual charity match on Tuesday. Students and staff raised more than $1,500 for Northfield families fighting cancer, the Northfield News reported. The yearly game has brought in almost $20,000 since it started in 2003. “They all had fun and it was a good experience, and it’s a great cause,” senior Kellen Robideau, coach of the student team, told the paper. “There are a whole bunch of families that need it, which is a tough time. Max wore No. 77 and played on the offensive line for the Raiders.
Congratulations are in order for Northfield High School's Max Weaver. Today Max signed a letter of intent to play Division II football on a partial scholarship at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall. Max wore No. 77 and played on the offensive line for the Raiders. Going into this junior year on the team, Coach Bubba Sullivan told Patch that Max had "the makings of a top offensive lineman." This select group of string players from across the state have earned an invitation to play in the Honors Orchestra (grades 7-9) based on an audition recording of their playing. Of the entries made by Northfield Public Schools, Nick Dempsey (viola), Brynne Gray (violin), Cameron Gray (cello), Jane Ludwig (cello), Henry Paton (cello), Maggie Sivanich (cello alternate), Molly Smith (violin) and Irene Stoutland (violin) were chosen. Good Afternoon, This morning, Northfield law enforcement shared with High School administration that they received word of a potential threat made towards Northfield High School, specifically about this Friday. High School administration and the Northfield police investigated the situation thoroughly, following a path of conversations that included 7-10 students and parents. The Northfield girls varsity basketball team extended its win streak to three after blowing out Austin on Saturday at Northfield High School. With the 59-31 victory, Northfield moves to 3-2 on the season. Anna Pfefferle led the way with 21 points and 18 rebounds. The girls next host Faribault on Friday as part of the school's triple-header day. Northfield and Faribault wrestlers kick off the action at 4:30 p.m., followed by girls basketball at 6 and boys basketball at 8. Northfield Activities Director Tom Graupmann told Patch that it's the first time the district has hosted a triple-header like this.
