Jeffrey Thomas Smith, 38, was arrested on Friday for allegedly stealing mail, according to the Rice County Sheriff's Office.
Rice County Sheriff's deputies on Friday arrested an Iowa man for allegedly stealing mail out of mailboxes in Northfield, Lakeville and other nearby communities. Jeffrey Thomas Smith, 38 of Dubuque, IA, was arrested after he fled deputies who responded to two calls about him, according to a press release from the Rice County Sheriff's Office. According to the release: A deputy was dispatched at 3:45 p.m. to the Rice-Dakota County line in Northfield to check on the welfare of a man, who was later identified as Smith. A caller said Smith stopped at the person's house and asked for something to eat. After being denied, Smith left, according to authorities. Kaleigh Nichole Bartok, 21, faces a fifth-degree felony drug possession charge, fourth-degree DWI charge and charge of possession of hypodermic needles not prescribed to her.
A Northfield woman on Wednesday was charged with possession of heroin. Kaleigh Nichole Bartok, 21, faces a fifth-degree felony drug possession charge, fourth-degree DWI charge and charge of possession of hypodermic needles not prescribed to her. The felony possession charge carries a maximum penalty of up to 5 years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine. According to a criminal complaint filed with Rice County District Court: Bartok was pulled over at about 12:15 a.m. on Tuesday after police dispatch received a call about an erratic driver on Highway 3.
