The owners returned to New York City after seven years in Northfield.

Satinder "Pappu" Singh, the affable chef-owner of Kurry Kabab, worked 13 years as a cab driver in New York City in order to raise the money to open his restaurant in Northfield in 2005. My understanding is that Vietnamese food is less spicy and sweet (but can still be spicy), and uses much more seafood...and almost no soy sauce. For the record. There is a HUGE difference between American Chinese food and actual Chinese food. Our "Chinese" food is much sweeter, and more things are fried.   more ›

Tough Market, Finances Led to Kurry Kabab Closing

The owners will to return to New York City after seven years in Northfield.

Satinder "Pappu" Singh, the affable chef-owner of Kurry Kabab, worked 13 years as a cab driver in New York City in order to raise the money to open his restaurant in Northfield in 2005. In another week or so, he and his wife, Nikki, will return to New York and he'll get back behind the wheel of a cab again. "We spent $200,000, plus seven years here," Singh said. "We loved serving the people of Northfield, but we cannot make it." A combination of the recession, Northfield's cost-conscious restaurant market and the financial difficulties of Kurry Kabab's landlord led to the closing. "We did the hard work," Singh said. Kurry Kabab to Close Sunday

The popular Indian restaurant opened in 2005.

Fans of the chicken tikka, chana masala, vegetable pakoras and other food at Kurry Kabab should visit the restaurant this week. Kurry Kabab will be closed after Sunday, according to owner-chef Pappu Singh. "We have loved serving the people of Northfield," said Singh, who has operated the business with his wife, Nikki, since 2005. Patch will have more about the Singhs' story on Monday. I'm so sorry to hear this. Kurry Kabab was the place I proudly took all my out of town guests and business associates and where our family has eaten as often as we can since the restaurant opened. We could always count on the pride and care the family took with preparing the food and the consideration they gave to the customers.
