Missy is a brown-and-black tabby domestic shorthair cat. She is a sweet girl with one instantly noticable feature: her smushed-down ear. Missy's left ear lays flat to her head, which makes you wonder at first if she's upset with you—since upset cats lay their ears flat. It turns out that ear is just part of Missy's charm because it's always like that. We estimate that Missy is about 3 years old. Missy was turned in by her former owner, who indicates that she has lived with children and other cats before and was friendly with them both. Missy is a big girl at 11 pounds. Vella great Dane/German shepherd mix, is looking for a home.

Vella is a tall and slender great Dane/German shepherd dog mix. She is such a pretty girl and a little shy but very friendly. She has a lovely personality and endearing spirit. We estimate that Vella is about 1 year old. Vella was turned in by her former owner because they didn't feel they had enough time for her. They indicated that she has lived with children before and was friendly with them. They did not indicate that she has lived with other animals before so we don't know much about her behavior toward them. Vella's former owners also told us that she is partially potty trained. Dog Training Classes Return to Prairie's Edge

Starting in January dog training classes return to the humane society.

Beginning Jan. 3, our dog and puppy training classes will return! After a few months break—due to not having a facility to hold them—we will start them up again and they will be held at 1500 Clinton Ln, Suite J, in Northfield. The classes will run every Monday and each are one hour long, with puppy kindergarten at 6 p.m., basic manners class at 7 p.m. and advanced manners at 8 p.m.  The cost is $65 for six weeks and you can move through them at your own speed.  We will do a rolling enrollment so you can enroll and begin classes on any given week. Our flexible classes allow you to attend when you are able and progress at your own pace!  Our trainer is an accredited trainer who has worked with all types of dogs from great Danes to chihauhas…

Shadow, a black lab, is looking for a home.

Shadow is a young black Lab mix. She is a big love bug with tons of puppy energy and enthusiasm. Shadow is just a very sweet girl. We estimate Shadow's to be 7 months old. She came to us because her former owner had an allergy to her. Her former owner indicates that Shadow has lived with a child before and was friendly with the child. Her former owner did not indicate that she has lived with other animals before so we don't know about her behavior regarding them. Looking for a pet?  Please consider adopting a shelter animal.   Adopting a shelter animal can be rewarding for both you and the animal.  As an adoption commercial on TV says, "Shelter animals aren't broken, they've simply experienced more life."  You will find some of the most wonderful pets at Prairie's Edge Humane Society.  These animals are there because of no fault of their own. They simply got lost, left behind or could no longer be taken care of by their current owner and now they are looking for their forever home.  At PEHS, we provide these animals with medical care, a warm bed, food and much love during their time with us, but regardless of how much our staff and volunteers love them, these animals deserve their own person in …

Guinnie, a guinea pig, is looking for a new home.

Guinnie is a sweet shorthaired tricolor guinea pig. She is a pretty mellow girl and doesn't seem to mind being held, although doesn't especially love being picked up (as most pigs don't because they are prey animals). We estimate that Guinnie is about 2 years old and we also estimate that she is a girl. You might want to have that double checked by a veterinarian familiar with guinea pigs before you put her in with any other guinea pigs if you don't want to have a batch of surprise baby pigs. Adoption Fee Discounted Thanks to Northfield Bank

With the help of Premier Bank, Sadie, a tabby cat, is now only $25 from the Prairie's Edge Humane Society.

Thanks to our friends at Premier Bank in Northfield, Sadie the beautiful orange tabby cat will have one half of her adoption fee paid for whomever adopts her!  Sadie is an adult domestic shorthair cat available for adoption from the Prairie's Edge Humane Society. She is a tabby cat with a very deep, beautiful orange color with some white spots too. We estimate Sadie's age to be 8 years old. She was turned in by her former owners who could no longer care for her due to health reasons but who wanted her to find a new home where she could be loved and cherished. Bailey Jo is a fun and fabulous black Lab Retriever. Bailey Jo is 8 years old but you would never guess it based on her energy level. She is full of the enthusiasm, bounce and excitement of a dog much younger. She LOVES to play fetch. If there's a ball around she'll find it, drop it very nicely at your feet and then shake with anticipation as she waits for you to throw it. Bailey Jo is a very smart girl, too.
