Each week, Dakota County Sheriff Dave Bellows releases a newsletter. In case you haven't seen it, Patch has it. Here is a sample of what was found in the newsletter. Dakota County emergency responders and the Miesville Fire Department battled a house fire in Miesville last Friday. The home sustained signifcant damage, but no one was home at the time of the fire, according to the Dakota County Sheriff's Office. On another note, the Dakota County Sheriff's Office honored several jail correctional employees for their exceptional performance at a ceremony last Saturday. Letter to the Editor: City Failing to Manage Downtown Property

Following a fire at an abandoned city-owned building at 303 Water St. S. on Tuesday night, an adjacent property owner writes that it's time the city takes care of the building.

To the Editor: The fire call to the city’s derelict property last night (the former Key building at 303 Water St. S.) compels me to take action to protect my property, if the city fails to secure the building.  A fire in the building on or the open deck would do substantial smoke damage to our building.  I don’t believe the city is immune from the city’s ordinance and state statutes (M.S. 561.01 et seq.) on abandoned and dangerous properties.  I drafted a nuisance complaint against the city over 10 years ago.   I will redraft it and serve and file next week if the city does not take adequate action to secure the property and abate the nuisance by the end of the day on Friday.  I believe the city’s intentional failure to care for and manage…

UPDATED: Burned Body in Vehicle Identified as Northfield Man

The body of a man found in a burning van on Sunday at the intersection of 150th St. W. and Acorn Trail in Cannon City Township has been identified as Michael Fraser of Northfield.

The body of a man found in a burning van on Sunday at the intersection of 150th St. W. and Acorn Trail in Cannon City Township has been identified as Michael Fraser of Northfield, according to the Rice County Sheriff's Office. Fraser, 45, was identifed through dental records by the Minnesota Regional Medical Examiner's Office. Toxicology tests are still pending and the cause and manner of death are pending as well. The Sheriff's Office and Faribault Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire call around 5:20 a.m. Sunday and arrived to find a body inside the vehicle. On Monday, the body was identified as male. There are currently no suspects and there's no indication if authorities suspect foul play. The case remains under investigation by…

UPDATED: Body Found in Burned Vehicle in Rural Rice County

The Rice County Sheriff's Office and Faribault Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire call around 5:20 a.m. Sunday and arrived to find a body inside the vehichle.

UPDATED: 8:30 p.m. The Rice County Sheriff's Office is now reporting that the body found inside a burning van Sunday morning in Cannon City Township was a man's. Emergency officials responded to a vehicle fire call around 5:20 a.m. and arrived to find a body inside the vehichle. Firefighters Responding to Fire at Malt-O-Meal Building

Several Northfield Fire Department trucks responded to a fire on the roof of the MOM Brands (Malt-O-Meal) building on Hwy. 19 shortly before 11 a.m. on Thursday morning. Traffic is currently blocked off near the intersection of Oddfellows Lane and Hwy. 19 as crews run water across the street. The fire appears to be located on an upper level of the building. Firefighters are on the third and fourth floor of building, and they're focusing their efforts on the roof, according to a Patch reporter on the scene. Click here for an update to this story.
