UPDATE: 'Mr. Northfield' Dan Freeman Dies at Age 72

Involved in many aspects of the life of Northfield for many years, Freeman had battled health issues for some time. He passed away Monday night at the Northfield Retirement Center.

Northfield legend Dan Freeman, 72, has died. Freeman—well known for his involvement in many aspects of life in Northfield—passed away Monday night at the Northfield Retirement Center, according to a death notice released by the Benson and Langehough Funeral Home. Freeman had battled health issues for some time. But, according to a post written by his daughter Suzanne on his Facebook page April 26, his health unexpectedly took a turn for the worse in recent weeks. He'll likely remain at the same complex in Northfield. I'm so sorry to give you all this news. Suzanne …

Wonderful articles written about Dan. One correction - Ryann (Wednesday's update) is Dan's granddaughter, not grandson. They were especially close and talked to each other daily with phone calls between Northfield and New York.   more ›

TJ Heinricy is Northfield Patch's Person of the Year

Heinricy received 41 percent of the vote.

TJ Heinricy is Northfield Patch’s 2012 Person of the Year. After nearly two weeks of voting in a poll on Patch, Heinricy received 41 percent of the vote (49 votes) from community members. In order to vote on the poll, a user had to be logged into Northfield Patch. If the person wasn't logged into the site when he or she voted, the vote did not count. Heinricy was one of eight names submitted when Patch asked readers to nominate people they thought were worthy of the honor, which were to based on their contributions to the community in the past year. On the line was a story about the chosen person’s giving spirit. As the top vote getter, Heinricy isn’t receiving an award, gift certificate or anything to that nature—just a little recognition…
