Northfield Patch recently caught up with Dahle to ask him about returning to the Minnesota Legislature and what lies ahead on the political landscape.
Northfield's Kevin Dahle returns to the Minnesota State Capitol today as District 20's senator after winning a close election and recount in the fall. Dahle, a DFLer, previously won a special election in 2008 to represent the area but lost in 2010 to Al DeKruif when Republicans ousted DFLers across the state. In 2012, Dahle, who's a social studies teacher at Northfield High School, will serve as the vice chair for the Education committee and will also serve on the Commerce committee, Finance—E-12 Division committee and the State and Local Government committee. Northfield Patch recently caught up with Dahle to ask him about returning to the Minnesota Legislature and what lies ahead on the political landscape. After a hard-fought campaign, a…

In our first survey of Twin Cities area DFLers, the majority think the president and governor are leading, while the Minnesota Legislature has lost its way.
Four out of five influential Democrats from around the Twin Cities think the Minnesota Legislature has lost its way after handing over the majority to Republicans for the first time in four decades. However, the party is in lock step with both Gov. Mark Dayton–once a controversial figure even among DFLers–and President Barack Obama. More than 100 Democrats from our Minnesota Patch communities, from Northfield to Stillwater, were surveyed in our inaugural Twin Cities Blue poll, which focused on the party’s allegiances. Fifty-four responses were collected. When asked if they felt the former U.S. Senator had become a strong leader as governor of Minnesota, 52 of the 54 Democrats surveyed agreed with that sentiment, with one voter neutral on …

Former state legislator Mike Obermueller's campaign raised more than $250,000 in May and June.
Former state legislator Mike Obermueller raised $252,976 in two months for his campaign to unseat Republican U.S. Rep. John Kline this year, campaign officials announced Monday. Obermueller said the support reflects a “deep frustration with the way Washington does business.” “Voters want representation that will strengthen the middle class,” Obermueller said. “I’m proud to have the support of so many people who want to end the gridlock in Washington.” Obermueller’s campaign has been placed on the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s “Red to Blue” list, races that the DCCC believe are the top competitive challenger races in the country. He launched his campaign after the state DFL endorsed him in April to challenge Kline. Kline…

"I am running for Senate to represent all of us in the district," said Brobston. "I want to work to end the divisive politics that frustrate Minnesotans."
Andrew Brobston, a software engineer from Vermillion Township in rural Dakota County, filed today with the Secretary of State to run for the Minnesota Senate in District 58. The district includes Farmington, most of Lakeville, and portions of rural Dakota and Goodhue Counties. "I am running for Senate to represent all of us in the district," said Brobston. "I want to work to end the divisive politics that frustrate Minnesotans." "When the legislature and governor arrived at a standoff that shut down the state government last year, the people of Minnesota lost. New business owners suffered delays in getting building permits. Schools endured uncertainty about their finances. We need a legislature who can work together to solve the real …

Congressman John Kline received the unanimous endorsement of Second District Republicans on Saturday, and now expects a fierce fight in the newly redrawn district he's represented for a decade.
U.S. Congressman John Kline, (R-Second District) of Lakeville, received the unanimous endorsement from Republicans at the GOP convention at Shakopee Junior High School last week, and is now preparing for what could shape up to be his fiercest election battle in years as he seeks a sixth term. Thanks to February's court-panel redistricting, Kline faces a tougher road in a second district which now includes DFL-leaning portions of northern Dakota County, as well as southern Washington County, and doesn't include Republican strongholds such as Carver County. It's also attracted what some consider to be more viable Democratic challengers who would otherwise stay out of the race since the old district leaned so far to the Republican Party. …

Former Rep. Mike Obermueller has officially declared his intent to seek the DFL nomination for the Second Congressional District. He joins Northfielder Patrick Ganey in the endorsement race.
It's getting crowded. The Star Tribune is reporting that former Rep. Mike Obermueller has officially declared his intent to seek the DFL nomination for the Second Congressional District. Obermueller, an attorney from Eagan, joins Northfield City Councilor Patrick Ganey, who announced his bid for his party's support in March. Both are eyeing the seat of five-term Republican incumbent John Kline. Last month when Obermueller was "seriously" considering a run, he told The UpTake that he wanted to put real representation back into Washington, D.C. "We basically lost a decade of prosperity and progress in this district," he said. Ganey, a development officer at Carleton College, said one of his priorities is to make education available for every…
