Dog Killing Victim: 'I Just Can't Understand How Anyone Could Be So Cruel'

Northfield resident Amanda Murphy lost her family dogs, Stella and Hugh, in a burglary on May 8.

Before she left home on the morning of May 8, Amanda Murphy said goodbye to her two Miniature Schnauzers, Stella and Hugh, opened a window for fresh air, then turned on a radio to keep the dogs company during the day. It was the last time Murphy, a Northfield resident, saw her two pets alive. Later that day, police say, 30-year-old Matthew David Jensen broke into Murphy's home, killed Stella and Hugh and stole $120 worth of state quarters. Police determined that one dog was stabbed and the other died from stangulation and blunt force trauma, according to a Northfield News report. Unfortunately, the perpetrators were totally heartless and their lives are about to change and they deserve whatever the law provides. This is all very tragic and impossible to comphrehend. Jensen Charged with Break-Ins, Dog Killings

Matthew David Jensen, 30, was charged on Monday with one count of felony first-degree burglary, two counts of felony second-degree burglary and three counts of felony mistreatment of animals.

A 30-year-old Northfield man arrested following a series of break-ins and dog killings in Northfield now faces formal criminal charges. Matthew David Jensen, 30, was charged on Monday with one count of felony first-degree burglary, two counts of felony second-degree burglary and three counts of felony mistreatment of animals, according to a Northfield News report. According to the newspaper, Jensen is accused of kiling one dog with a knife, and two others by strangulation and blunt force trauma during a series of three residential break-ins that took place on May 8 and 9. Man Charged for Rice County Residential Burglaries

Police say Justin Walter Lindgren burglarized four Rice County homes in November and stole jewelry and firearms.

A Faribault man charged last week with heroin possession in Minneapolis is accused of breaking into multiple homes in rural Rice County in November, stealing jewelry and weapons. Justin Walter Lindgren, 30, is behind bars in Rice County, charged with five felonies: possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, which carries a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison and a $30,000 fine, and four counts of second-degree burglary, each of which has a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine. Rice County authorities investigated seven residential burglaries, and one attempted burglary, beginning Nov. 19, according to the criminal complaint.
