Up to 7 inches of snow could fall in Northfield.
UPDATE: A snow emergency goes into effect 4 a.m. Tuesday and will last for 72 hours. Downtown snow removal will happen Wednesday. Snow, often longed for during the holiday season, may be wearing its welcome out among many Northfielders and Minnesotans. Northfield, Rice County and much of Minnesota is in a winter storm warning, which remains in effect until 6 a.m. Tuesday. Following the record blizzard on Dec. 11-12, another 7 inches of snow is in the forecast for Monday, according to the National Weather Service. As much as 10 inches of snow could fall in other parts of the state. Monday's snow fall won't come close to matching the estimated 15 inches of snow from the blizzard two weekends ago, but it could be a hindrance to those …

Northfield Patch recaps the happenings of the past week.
The week started off with residents and city workers recovering from the blizzard that dropped about 15 inches of snow on Dec. 10 and 11. Enough snow was moved by Monday to allow Northfield Public Schools to send students to school and hold its December school board meeting. At the meeting, the board approved the 2011 levy, dropping it nearly 2 percent. Plenty of news happened Tuesday. Melissa Louise Hokanson, 19, was charged with manslaughter in Dakota County Court in connection with the 2009 death of her 17-month-old son, Nicholas Miller. Tylar Hokanson, Miller's stepfather, was sentenced to life in prison last month for his role in the toddler's death. City Council on Tuesday set February as the deadline to put a schedule in …

About six hours of snow removal remains for the city.
The majority of Northfield streets have been plowed. Work remains, however. T.J. Heinricy, the streets and parks supervisor for the city of Northfield, said late Monday afternoon that about 80 percent of the city had been plowed. About 9,800 tons of snow—or 245 semi loads—have been removed from the city and dropped at various sites in the area. About six hours of plowing remains, which will happen Tuesday, he said. Heinricy says about 95 percent of residential streets and cul-de-sacs have been plowed, but some parked cars have caused delays. On Sunday, the Northfield Police Department responded to eight parking violations and two road hazard calls, according to its daily activity report from Deputy Chief Chuck Walerius. It's illegal to …

Northfield Patch recaps the happenings of the past week.
Monday brought us the third and final part of a column about perseverance and setting goals, written by David Craft, principal of Greenvale Park Elementary. The first two parts ran in the final days of last week. It was a good read and I recommend everyone go back and read it from the beginning. While it definitely applies to the students walking the halls of Greenvale, David makes several points that should resonate with adults. The Fine Craft Collective has returned for its seventh year and has rented spaced at 314 Division St. Myrna CG Mibus writes about what's offered from the 25 artists who make up the FCC this year and gives Northfielders a few good ideas for holiday shopping. Hurry, though, the shop closes Dec. 24. On Tuesday, …

Snow started falling on Friday and didn't let up until early Sunday, dumping 4 inches on the area.
It was an event 20 years in the making. Last weekend's snowstorm was Minnesota's biggest pre-Thanksgiving snowfall since the famed "Halloween Blizzard" of 1991, which lasted three days from Oct. 31-Nov. 2, according to the State Climatology Office. Estimates from the National Weather Service show about 4 inches of snow fell on Northfield from Friday through early Sunday. Elsewhere, in places like Mankato, St. Louis Park and Forest Lake, more than 10 inches of snow fell, according to the NWS. Maple Grove topped Minnesota cities with 13 inches of snowfall. Locally, children took to the St. Olaf hill for sledding, while others quickly turned to cleaning off their driveways. Some, still with Halloween pumpkins decorating their frontyards, saw …
