Business 101

Nest Midwest Offers Eclectic Mix

Northfield Patch recently caught up with store owner, Nicole Stofflet, to learn more about the past, present and future of Nest Midwest.

Nest Midwest offers a West Coast aesthetic to downtown Northfield with its eclectic collection of art, furniture, lighting, and decorative pieces from across the globe.  Northfield Patch recently caught up with store owner, Nicole Stofflet, to learn more about the past, present, and future of her business.  Have you ever had a day where you just wanted to quit? Never. This has been a dream of mine forever. When did you first realize that you wanted to own a store like Nest Midwest? I went to school for interior design and art history, but I couldn't find a job in my field. I took that as a sign to start my own business. So, I started looking for locations to start my business. Scene in Northfield: Third Annual Senior Open

On Tuesday, many artists were on hand for the reception for the third annual Senior Open at the Northfield Senior Center.

Walter See doesn't understand why anyone would pay money to own his "amateur" art. Though far from a pro, he continues to paint. And paint. And paint. On Tuesday, he was one of many artists on hand for the reception for the third annual Senior Open at the Northfield Senior Center. See's "Civil War Scene" was on display with other works of painting, pottery, photography, sculpture, wood carvings and weaving. The exhibit is open through Jan. 6. With 2012 marking the 150th anniversary of the beginning of the Civil War, See thought that work was a good choice for the exhibit. The scene, which he replicated from a famous piece, is for his grandson, Elliott. Elliott is named after a relative of See's who served in the Civil War.  See said he's …

If your wall decor isn't matching your taste these days, The Key (Northfield Union of Youth) wants to talk to you. More than 250 pieces of art have been collected, according to Bob Dobrow, an adult board member for the nonprofit, which is the longest-running youth-led organization in the country. More pieces are still being donated, he said. "There is a huge variety, including ceramics, posters, beautiful photographs and work by well-known area artists," Dobrow told Patch. With …
