Cold Weather Prompts Additional Closures, Changes

Things you need to know this week are below.

Northfield Public Schools students will enjoy an extra day of winter break Monday after Gov. Mark Dayton announced Friday that all public schools would be closed in anticipation of extremely cold weather.

The district may decide to cancel school on Tuesday as well, however, that decision will not be made until Monday.

In addition, some Minnesota businesses and organizations have made changes to their Monday plans, according to KSTP.com:

  • Rainbow Foods locations will close early at 8 p.m. Monday;
  • The Minnesota Zoo will be closed Monday;
  • Best Buy, General Mills and Allina Health are among companies letting employees work from home Monday.

Other things to know this week include:

Minnesota writer Alison McGhee will speak at the Northfield Public Library at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7.

River Bend Nature Center, 1000 Rustad Rd. in Fairbault, is hosting an event for kids ages 5-12 and their grandparents from 3:30-5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9.
