VIDEO: Northfield EMS Explorers Learn About Car Extrication

Members of the EMS Explorer program, which started in January, learned from firefighters and first responders about extricating people from a wrecked car.

Explorers learned from firefighters and first responders about extricating people from a wrecked car.

James Ingham with the EMS and chief adviser for the Northfield EMS Explorer Post said the group is a great opportunity for the explorers to train for different types of emergencies. It also gives them a glimpse of a potential career.

"If they choose this for a career, wonderful. If they find out it's not for them, this is the best time to find out," Ingham said.

The EMS Explorer program started in January.

There are 17 members in Northfield EMS Explorer Post and Ingham said they will blanket area schools in the coming months to recruit more members. Those who want to join have to be between 14 and 21 years old.
