Kids, Want $200? Create a Video PSA About Youth Under Pressure

You can submit videos until Aug. 17.

Hanna Bubser wants you to give it a try.

Hanna, who last year with Samantha Roback won Northfield's , hopes to see even more youth get involved with this year's competition.

The contest, sponsored by the Northfield Healthy Community Initiative and the Mayor’s Task Force on Youth Alcohol & Drug Use, asks the city's youth to create a short video about a theme that influences their peers. This year's topic is "youth under pressure."

“A lot of people should do it,” said Hanna, a 15-year-old sophomore at . “It would be even better if we got more people to participate.”

Last year, Hanna and Samantha grabbed a Canon camcorder and spent one afternoon coming up with an idea, recording it and editing it.

Hanna said they thought their video was good, but were surprised they won. The tandem won a $200 cash prize for receiving the most votes for their cyberbullying-themed PSA video.

"We were really excited," she said. "We liked the final product. We were really proud of it."

Hanna said she shared the video with a lot of her friends and was excited to hear younger students talk about it after it was shared during a morning newscast at .

This year, youth are encouraged to produce a video showing what is creating stress and pressure in their lives, how they cope, how they find balance, and what would help them lessen pressure and stress.

Two $200 prizes will be awarded.

More information and download forms can be found at the HCI website. PSA videos need to be created and submitted by Aug. 17.
