Epic Enterprise Earns Top Accreditation Rating

Epic Enterprise, the Dundas-based nonprofit that provides services to and work opportunities for adults with developmental disabilities, recently was evaluated by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities, an independent agency that certifies a variety of human care facilities around the world. According to CARF, services that meet their rigorous standards "are among the best available."

After a two-day process conducted by two CARF reviewers, Epic received a three-year accreditation—CARF's highest possible rating. Published comments from the reviewers call the Epic staff "skillful, committed, and passionate" and note that they are "creative, hardworking, and pragmatic."

"Although we're always a bit nervous before undergoing the scrutiny of a CARF visit, this process has once again affirmed that we're on the right track and doing good work," says Linda Hibbard, executive director of Epic. "Even so, we continuously strive to improve our services as we help our clients pursue opportunities in the broader community."

The reviewers also singled out Epic's new facility that opened in Dundas last year, calling it "functional and well appointed." The reviewers also noted that "artwork designed by persons served adorns the 10,000-square-foot building to make spaces inviting and comforting. Drawings, paintings, pottery, paper sculptures, and a quilt are proudly displayed."

Kathleen Doran-Norton, president of Epic's board and director of enrollment information and research at , noted the special recognition CARF gave Hibbard.

"They said that the 'organization is led by a dynamic and visionary CEO,' who 'promotes teamwork, excellence in service, and a person-centered focus,'" says Doran-Norton. "The organization is doing so well today and is in such good shape for the future thanks to Linda's vision and the efforts of Epic staff."

Area businesses that use Epic's services include , the , Bon Appetit Management Company at and St. Olaf colleges, Viking Auto Salvage and five local CommonBond properties.
