Pea-Sized: Northfield Spared Worst as Summer Storm Rumbles by

Hail and rainfall amounts were much smaller locally than in the Twin Cities Tuesday.

Northfield caught a much-deserved break from the brunt of severe weather that moved through Minnesota Tuesday night.

Less than half and inch of rain fell and downtown Northfield saw pea-sized hail, while the southern and western Twin Cities suburbs were measuring hail and precipitation by the inch.

Spot checks of Xcel Energy's online outage map suggested that Northfield residents were generally not affected by interruptions in electrical service that hit as many as 50,000 customers in Minnesota since Tuesday's storms.

So in place of dramatic summer storm photos, here are a couple scenes of summer light on the landscape posted by carolinerwood at Instagram from a Northfield bike ride Monday.
