Northfield Police Award Banquet

This afternoon was the third annual Northfield Police Department recognition banquet. It was a time to come together and recognize the efforts and dedication of our peers in the Northfield Police Department. This year both police and reserve police officers were included in a time to come together for camaraderie and appreciation.

Normally in our hectic society there is little time given for recognition when you go above and beyond what would normally be expected of you. No matter what job or profession you are involved in this holds true. But every now and again time is set aside to take a moment and recognize others for their extraordinary contributions and a job well done. Today the Northfield Police Department took the opportunity to publicly and formally give thanks and recognition to our peers.

For my part I would like to say thank you to the men and women I serve with as a Reserve Officer. Each of you brings a vast and varied experience to our unit. We are all enriched and made better Reserve Officers by your participation and willingness to share your time and talents.

Working alongside each of you in the heat of summer during the Defeat of Jesse James Days to the extreme cold of winter at the St. Olaf Christmas Festival has created good memories and stories that will remain with me for a lifetime.

At the awards banquet this year I was honored as the recipient of the Reserve of rhe Year for 2012 by the Northfield Police Department.  I do not take this award lightly. If anything I feel I have more to live up to by being a recipient. At least I better stay out of trouble! Seriously, it is an honor and a recognition that I will always cherish.

I would like to say thank you to Interim Police Chief Chuck Walerius for your leadership and support of the Northfield Police Reserves. Thanks to Sgt. Mark Murphy, our past Coordinator and now advisor. Sgt. Murphy has been very supportive of our role within the department and has been a mentor to many. Thanks to Officer Tussing, our new Reserve Coordinator, who has shown he will be very active in our day to day operations.

Last but not least, congratulations to all of the officers that were recognized today both reserve and licensed. And a big thank you to all the Police Officers of the Northfield Police Department. As a citizen of Northfield I am very grateful for your service and dedication.
