Northfield Legion Ends District Playoff Run

The Northfield American Legion baseball team’s run through the District 3 tournament ended two wins shy of a state berth on Saturday.

The River Rats fell to Lakeville North 4-2 at Alimagnet Park in Burnsville. Lakeville North advanced to face East Ridge in one of the district’s two runner-up contests and won 9-4, earning a spot in next week’s state tournament in Eden Prairie. State begins on Friday.

Northfield entered the tournament as the seventh seed and beat Waconia 14-4 in the first round. The River Rats lost to eventual district champion Eastview 13-2 in the championship quarterfinals, then beat Chanhassen 6-5 on Friday to stay alive in the runner-up bracket.
