Northfield Boys Hockey Easily Advance in Section 1A Play

The Raiders walloped Austin 9-0 on Tuesday.

Call it a warm-up.

Midway through the scoreless first period of Tuesday's Section 1A game, the Northfield boys hockey team stopped messing around and scored four goals—three in a span of 1 minute and 2 seconds.

After three periods, the Raiders scored nine times, a nice momentum builder heading into Thursday's tournament game against New Prague.

Forward Michael Vogel, who scored the first two goals of the game and added an assist later, said the team is ready to beat New Prague after losing twice to the team in the regular season 2-5 and 0-3.

"It's going to be a good game," the senior said. "We're pretty evenly matched teams."

Goalie Isaak Tjaden played the first two periods and stopped 11 shots. Nate Finger took his place for the third period and stopped another four Austin shots.

Tjaden said the team is ready to go for Thursday and needs to play aggressive if it plans to redeem the two losses.

"We can play with them," the junior netminder said. "We need to come play three periods strong and do the little things."

Northfield plays 7 p.m. Thursday at New Prague. The winner of the game goes to the semi-finals of the Section 1A tournament. The losing team is done for the season.
