Travel Tips for Animals

A little planning can reduce stress for you and your pets. Take a few steps to protect your pets as you travel or camp.

Bags are packed - vacation time.     Many do travel with their pets but mishaps happen.    An inexpensive way to make sure your pet has identification is to attach a small luggage tag on your pet's collar with contact information.   In addition to your contact information, have your home town veterinarians number on the tag.   Let your local clinic know where you are going and where you can be reached.    You and your pets could become separated and the "finder" may call your clinic if the number is on the information tag.     Luggage tags are easily replaceable and you could take a couple of spares just in case.   Information can easily be changed or updated as you travel around.

Your pet may also be exposed to various parasites not common in your home town area.    Check with your veterinarian to make sure your pet is protected in the areas  you are visiting.     Different time zones - different issues.   Don't take a chance.    Protection is the best option.   A sick pet can ruin or cut short a wonderful trip.

When traveling, have veterinary clinic numbers and locations for the areas you are visiting.     If something happens you will have access to information quickly.      Cell phones are great but don't always work when and where you absolutely need them too.    Time can make a difference.    Wasted time could be tragic.

Plan well and enjoy your summer outings.
