Just One of Those Sayings

Have you read or heard the saying "No Good Deed Goes Unpunished"? I have - way too many times. In a list of the most depressing sayings - this one is at the top. This saying could imply that it's better not to get involved. It could also provide an excuse to do nothing. Or, yes, I agree something should be done; however, leave me out of it. My involvement in animal welfare has brought me in contact with many giving, caring people. There are so many individuals working to make things better. Deeds can be large or small - most go almost unnoticed. People give - not just financially - but literally of themselves. Givers cover the entire expanse of a community. It is energizing to be around individuals who give just because - . People who stick their neck out to help are risking something (in time, in effort, in invested care, etc.). Something negative may come of this outreach. Occasionally we will get taken by someone. If we suffer some little consequence, we'll survive. Should we stop making the effort? I would like to propose a more uplifting saying - one already practiced by a great number of people. That is: "The reward for a good deed is to have done it". So, look around your neighborhood and community. Are there things - large or small - that could be done to help improve the quality of life for animals? Thank you to all that get involved - that share of your time, talent and energy - in an effort to make a difference. You are my inspiration. Keep up the good work - keep trying - and keep caring.
