The preliminary increase is the maximum school board members can raise taxes when a final number is approved in December. They can, however, decide on a smaller increase or none at all. Before final approval, a public meeting will be held for community members to share their thoughts on the proposed increase.

Rice County and the City of Northfield have also set preliminary tax levies for the 2013-14 fiscal year.
