Salman Rushdie to Present at Carleton College

The award-winning and controversial author will be in Northfield Oct. 25.

Award-winning British author Salman Rushdie will present the 2013 Lucas Lecture entitled “Censorship and The Satanic Verses: 25 Years Later" on Oct. 25 at Carleton College.

According to Northfield News, the appearance is part of an ongoing series on censorship, blasphemy and free speech at the college:

"Twenty-five years after the publication of his controversial novel, 'The Satanic Verses,' Rushdie will speak of his experiences with censorship and the importance of free speech, according to Susannah Ottaway, Carleton professor of history and the David and Marian Adams Bryn-Jones, a professor of the humanities."


The event begins at 6 p.m. Oct. 25. The event is free and open to the public, but reservations are encouraged. To register online, go to go.carleton.edu/rushdie.
