Northfield Football Loses to Shakopee; Section Tourney Starts Tuesday

The Raiders fell 35-21 to Shakopee.

Though the football team (2-6, 1-6 Missota) ended the season with a 35-21 loss, they showed a lot of promise as they head into section playoffs.

Hosting undefeated Shakopee (8-0, 7-0 Missota) on Wednesday at , the Raiders stayed in the game with some big plays from quarterback Jake Mathison, wide receiver Eric Shepley and running back Cody Fugate.

"Our offense is finally putting points up," Shepley told the Northfield News. "We’re playing together better. When we had the ball on offense tonight, it felt like we were always going to score."

Northfield trailed the Sabres 21-14 at the half and Shakopee opened the third quarter with a touchdown. The Raiders bounced back with a big 45-yard rushing score from Fugate to close out the third quarter, but couldn't tally any more points in the fourth quarter.

The Raiders open up Section 1AAAA tournament play on Tuesday, Oct. 25. The seeds have not yet been determined.
