Sunday was all about the pay off.

juniors and seniors were honored for their academic successes throughout their high school careers. For a complete list of award recipients, click on the PDF.

In addition to receiving awards, seniors received a total of $70,000 in scholarships, said Principal Joel Leer.

There were 11 commended students. According to the high school, a commended certficiate "is awarded to studenys by a department after the student has completed five semesters as a NHS student. Any teacher in a department may nominate a student for the commended certificate. The qualification for determining the commended student is not grades or grade point average; rather, "most progress/improvement," "responsible," "hard working,"  and "achieving up to potential" are the guiding words for nominating a commended student.

Seniors in this group include Will Jorenby, Colton Kastner, Dana O'Donnell, Christopher Isom, Matthew Pederson and Abigail Sheets. Juniors in this group were Jordan Ohmann, Hayden Johnson, Carly Roecklein, Ghandy Bartolo and Justin Malecha.

David Legvold was this year's distinguished alumni. According to the high school, Legvold, from the class of 1959:

• Taught students for 35 years and retired in 2001
• Still farms more than 780 acres of land near Northfield
• Worked as a farm equipment specialists
• Served as executive director of Cannon River Watershed Partnership
• Served on the board of directors for the Eagle Bluff Environmental Learning Center
• Member of the Northfield Community Band and avid "Barbershop" vocalist
• Active in local theater, both onstage and behind the scenes
• Married to Ruth and has two songs, Mark and Mike, and four grandchildren
