Norway's King and Queen to Visit Minnesota, St. Olaf College

The royal visit is planned for Oct. 11-18, with visits also planned for the Mayo Clinic, Augsburg College and Duluth.

Norway's King Harald and Queen Sonja are coming to Minnesota next month for an eight-day tour, which includes a stop at St. Olaf College, according to the Star Tribune.

has a long history with the peaceful country, being one of the few colleges to offer a major in Norwegian. Each year, St. Olaf students study abroad in Norway and each summer St. Olaf students participate in the Oslo International Summer School.

Following the July attack from suspected terrorist Anders Behring Breivik on Oslo— students were there for the ISS—St. Olaf President David R. Anderson wrote a letter to the Norwegian Ambassador to the United States expressing deep sympathy for the tragedy that struck the country.

“The ties between St. Olaf and Norway are deep and personal, and we are heartsore for the people who have been injured, for those who have lost loved ones, and for this violation of Norway's peace,” Anderson wrote.
