Homecoming: Old Gym Floor Auction, Royalty and a Tailgating Party

You'll be able to see the piece of gym floor as you enter the main gate to Memorial Field on Friday.

At its football homecoming game on Friday, Northfield High School will sell a four-piece set of the old gym floor at a silent auction.

The recently replaced section spells the word ”Raiders” when the 4-by-4 foot pieces are aligned and create a 4-by-16 section. Activities Director Tom Graupmann said the school kept the end of the floor that had maroon tape on the floor.

Graupmann is hopeful for a good winning bid, but he said he doesn’t know if he should expect $5 or $500.

Visitors can view the memorabilia on display at the main entrance of the stadium before and during the game. The auction table will be located near the entrance, on the home side of the field.

Before the game, RALIE (Raider Activity Leaders Improving Enthusiasm) and the Northfield Booster Club will sponsor a tailgate party at the main entrance of Memorial Field from 5:15 to 6:45 p.m. A burger or hot dog, chips and a beverage will be sold for $3.

The Raiders are looking to get their first win of the season on Friday as they host the Red Wing Wingers. Northfield's record is 0-5.

Before Friday's game, a homecoming queen and king will be selected at a pep fest.

Candidates are:

  • Helene Anglin and Willy Bestul
  • Samantha Barth and Maverick Chester-Moore
  • Grace Foley and Joe Donahoe
  • Allyson Harris and Justin Malecha
  • Frannie Seitz and Logan Regnier
