The index is compiled by Campus Pride, a national non-profit that pushes to make the college environment safer and more comfortable for LGBT students. This week, Campus Pride released its annual list of the "Top 25-LGBT Friendly Colleges and Universities" in the country.
To create the index, the organization uses data submitted by the schools themselves. Campus officials are asked to fill out a self-assessment, which includes over 50 questions pertaining to eight different "LGBT-Friendly factors" defined by Campus Pride:
1. LGBT Policy Inclusion
2. LGBT Support & Institutional Commitment
3. LGBT Academic Life
4. LGBT Student Life
5. LGBT Housing
6. LGBT Campus Safety
7. LGBT Counseling & Health
8. LGBT Recruitment and Retention EffortsThe data is then tested, analyzed and ranked according to a five star system.
Three other Minnesota schools also landed spots on the list: the University of Minnesota-Duluth, the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities and Macalester College.
