Carleton Named One of 'Top 25-LGBT Friendly Colleges' in the US

Carleton College received a five star rating from Campus Pride, an LGBT advocacy group.

The word "pride" has a whole new meaning for Carleton College. The undergraduate institution is among the most LGBT-friendly in the nation, according to the Campus Pride Index.

The index is compiled by Campus Pride, a national non-profit that pushes to make the college environment safer and more comfortable for LGBT students. This week, Campus Pride released its annual list of the "Top 25-LGBT Friendly Colleges and Universities" in the country.

To create the index, the organization uses data submitted by the schools themselves. Campus officials are asked to fill out a self-assessment, which includes over 50 questions pertaining to eight different "LGBT-Friendly factors" defined by Campus Pride:

1. LGBT Policy Inclusion

2. LGBT Support & Institutional Commitment
