After-School Safety Workshop to Be Held

In the wake of recent natural disasters and man-made tragedies, join a panel of experts for a discussion about creating and maintaining safe spaces for our children and youth after school.

Bethel Lutheran Church will be hosting “An Open, Loving, and Safe Place,” a child-safety workshop for after-school program coordinators, children and youth ministers, pastors, facilities managers, emergency preparedness teams, childcare professionals, parents and the public. The workshop will be held on Monday, January 28, at 7 p.m. in the church fellowship hall at 1321 North Avenue.

Northfield Public Schools have comprehensive plans in place for preventing and dealing with catastrophes of all varieties. How can the schools' plans inform other organizations' (churches, YMCAs, daycare facilities, etc.) preparation efforts? What can other organizations learn from plans made by our schools? How can the Northfield Police Department help in our preparedness? How extensive should our preparations be?

  • Dr. Charles Kyte, retired Northfield Public Schools superintendent;
  • Principal Scott Sannes, Sibley Elementary School; and
  • Sergeant Thad Monroe, Northfield police patrol sergeant and former school liaison
