Bridgewater School 3rd Graders Tour Prairie's Edge Humane Society

The Bridgewater Elementary School 3rd Grade students from Northfield once again held their annual garage sale to benefit the animals at Prairie’s Edge Humane Society! This is an annual project for the students at Bridgewater and over the years they have raised thousands of dollars for the animals at PEHS. This year the students and their teachers raised over $500 at their garage sale.

The students use the shelter as a project each year, checking our website every morning to monitor the available animals and keep a graph of the number of days the animals are at the shelter. They use the information throughout their various classes. It is a great learning project for them and a great fundraiser for the animals at PEHS. They even create adoption posters for each animal which are displayed throughout the school on the days of the garage sale. The students do the work of organizing sale items, waiting on customers and keeping track of sales. The students are then taken to Target armed with our list of supply needs for the shelter and as part of this project they are required to determine how to get the most for their money. This year they were given $200 to spend on supplies. They were so good at finding the best price and figuring the amount they could spend that the entire bill once done shopping for the shelter came to $200.20. Only .20 over the budgeted amount they were to spend. They did a great job!

This is a great project and we are so excited to be a part of it each year. We are so grateful that Bridgewater Elementary School is teaching students to be caring citizen’s and we are very proud of these young people for working to better their community by supporting the Prairie’s Edge Humane Society and our programs.

54 Bridgewater School students visited the shelter on May 24th for a tour and to deliver the funds and supplies they purchased for the PEHS shelter. They presented us with a good supply of bleach, laundry detergent, paper towels and dish soap as well as the funds raised at their annual garage sale. They were given a tour of the shelter and a question and answer period was held in which these 3rd graders really quizzed our staff members. It is amazing how informed these kids are in regards to the animals and how caring they are towards the needs of the animals. We feel we now have 54 animal ambassadors sent out to the world after their visit to the shelter. We love having them visit the shelter! They also got to meet Cooper a dog adopted from the PEHS shelter and is currently being trained as a therapy dog with his owner who recently had a heart transplant. As you can see in the photo Cooper was a big hit with the kids!

We are very grateful to the teachers, students and staff from Bridgewater Elementary School. This is a great opportunity for community members and parents to help these wonderful students raise money for a cause they have chose to support. Bridgewater School should be proud of its students and of their teachers for educating these young people in giving back to their community.
