Why Did the Sirens Go Off in Northfield?
Northfield alarms were inadvertently triggered.
Editor's note: This was sent from Tim Boyer, assistant director of the Rice/Steele Consolidated Dispatch Center, to Rice County public safety officials.
My apologies go out to all of you and your communities!
This morning at approximately 0230 a Severe Weather Warning for Rice County had been initiated. During the notification process to page Northfield Fire the Northfield siren sequence was inadvertently activated. The sequence was immediately cancelled but not in time to silence them before sounding. Subsequently sirens sounded in the City of Northfield prompting some citizens to call and question what was happening. I can only assume that you may be fielding some calls today regarding the early morning activation. Again on behalf of the employees involved I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.
