UPDATE: Senate Approves Vikings Stadium Bill
The bill goes to Gov. Mark Dayton for his signature. The historic vote appears to end years-long drive for new stadium for the National Football League team.
UPDATE: The Minnesota Vikings appear to have scored a new stadium.
On a 36-30 vote Thursday afternoon, the Minnesota Senate approved a financing bill for a new $975 million stadium in downtown Minneapolis for the Vikings.
The legislation now heads to the desk of Gov. Mark Dayton, who has championed the stadium effort this year.

The bill calls for the Vikings to pick up nearly half of the cost of the stadium, while the state and the City of Minneapolis will cover the rest.
Both of Northfield's representatives in the Senate—Sen. Al DeKruif (R-District 25) and Sen. Dave Thompson (R-District 36)—voted no.

It appears that the Minnesota Senate is closing in on a vote on the final Minnesota Vikings stadium funding bill.
Early this afternoon, senators are making cases to vote for or against the reconciled version of the bill.
Earlier today, the Minnesota House voted 71 to 60 to approve the legislation and send it to the Senate. Patch's story about that vote can be viewed by .
