Today we celebrate Veterans Day, a national holiday to pay tribute to our military personnel serving or who have served in armed conflicts.

Today we celebrate Veterans Day, a national holiday to pay tribute to our military personnel serving or who have served in armed conflicts.

There are several Veterans Day deals out there that businesses are giving away to show their appreciation.

Here are a few that veterans in the Northfield area can take advantage of:

Applebee’s is again offering a free meal to military veterans and active-duty service members on Veterans Day, Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012. There will be seven entrées to choose from, beverage and gratuity not included. Military ID or proof of service required.

Subway—free Six-Inch Sub, Nov. 11, 2012: Select SUBWAY® Restaurants will offer a FREE six inch sub or flatbread to military veterans on Veterans Day. This offer is valid only on November 11, 2012 at participating local SUBWAY® restaurants, Military ID or proof of service required. Note: SUBWAY® Restaurants are franchises, so this offer may not be available everywhere. Please call ahead for participation and times.

Amazon.com—free MP3 album download “Veterans Day Honor”: Available at Amazon on Veterans Day. Download the album (album will be full price again starting Nov. 12).

Tomorrow, veterans are invited to the annual Bridgewater Elementary Veterans Day Program, which is scheduled for 9 a.m.

The event is open to all veterans; there will be a brief social hour following with cards, coffee and cookies.

And while Northfield Public Schools are open tomorrow, the City of Northfield is closed to recognize the federal holiday. That means City Hall and the Northfield Public Library are closed.
