Northfield High School Election Results

Who got the youth vote?

As part of their ongoing efforts to ensure a youth voice in the 2012 elections, the Mayor’s Youth Council hosted a “Youth Vote” on Friday, Nov. 2, 2012, during the lunch hours at the Northfield High School.  A total of 399 youth, or roughly one-third of the student body, cast their votes in upcoming local, state and national contests.


Results included:

U.S. President and Vice President
Barack Obama and Joe Biden (Democratic-Farmer-Labor) – 65.4%
Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan (Republican) – 25.3%
Other – 9.3%

U.S. Senator
Amy Klobuchar (Democratic-Farmer-Labor) – 69.1%
Kurt Bills (Republican) – 18.3%
Stephen Williams (Independence) – 6.2%
Tim Davis (Grassroots Party) – 4.0%
Michael Cavlan (Minnesota Open Progressives) – 2.4% 

U.S. Representative
Mike Obermueller (Democratic-Farmer-Labor) – 59.2%
John Kline (Republican) – 40.8%

State Senator
Kevin L. Dahle (Democratic-Farmer-Labor) – 85.1%
Mike Dudley (Republican) – 14.9%

State Representative

David Bly (Democratic-Farmer-Labor) – 74.7%
Brian Wermerskirchen (Republican) – 25.3%

Constitutional Amendment 1
Shall the Minnesota Constitution be amended to provide that only a union of one man and one woman shall be valid or recognized as a marriage in Minnesota?
Yes – 16.2%
No – 83.8% 

Constitutional Amendment 2
Shall the Minnesota Constitution be amended to require all voters to present valid photo identification to vote and to require the state to provide free identification to eligible voters, effective July 1, 2013?
Yes – 33.4%
No – 66.6%

Dana S. Graham – 69.0%
Rhonda Pownell – 31.0%

Council Member At-Large (Northfield)
Betsey Buckheit – 62.6%
David L. Ludescher – 37.4%

School Board (Northfield)
 - Could vote for up to 4; numbers indicate total votes received
Ellen Iverson – 241 votes
Anne Maple – 196 votes
Rob Hardy – 183 votes
Noel Stratmoen – 167 votes
Daniel Cupersmith – 161 votes
