Northfield Declares Snow Emergency

Residential streets will be plowed Monday, according to an email from the City of Northfield Public Works Department.

The City of Northfield has declared a snow emergency, beginning at 12:01 a.m. Monday.

Throughout the day on Sunday, the city has received more than 8 inches of snow during what the National Weather Service has classified as a "major winter storm." Driving on snow- and slush-covered city streets has been a challenge.

Here is the text of an email sent out Sunday afternoon by the city's public works department to announce the snow emergency:

Date Snow Emergency is declared: Monday December 10, 2012- 12:01AM

Date residential streets will be plowed: Monday December 10th, 2012

Date all downtown parking lots except 5th & Washington Street are closed: Morning of Monday December 10th beginning at 12:01AM

Date of downtown snow removal: Morning of December 11th, Tuesday beginning at 12:01AM

Date 5th & Washington Street lot is closed: Morning of December 11, 2012 Tuesday beginning at 12:01AM

Length of Snow Emergency: 72 hrs

The Public Works Department has declared a SNOW EMERGENCY for the City of Northfield. The snow emergency will start on the date above and will continue until the streets are plowed curb-to-curb after the weather system has passed. During the emergency there is NO PARKING OR TRASH/RECYCLING CANS ALLOWED ON CITY STREETS.

All downtown parking lots will be open unless signed accordingly. When the lots are signed there is "No Parking Allowed from 12:00 AM till 6:00AM" All downtown parking lot permit holders must park in the proper unsigned lots during the event.

The 5th & Washington Street lot will be closed during the downtown snow removal, which is currently scheduled for the morning outlined above. During the downtown snow removal, permit holders who normally park in the 5th and Washington Street lot should park in another downtown parking lot.

When a snow emergency is declared you may not park on a City of Northfield Street until it is plowed curb-to-curb and weather system has passed.
