Malecha, Quinnell File for Rice County District 2 Seat

Filing ends June 5.

On the first day of filing, Commissioner Galen Malecha has submitted his name for re-election to represent District 2 on the Rice County Board of Commissioners.

Malecha, who is in his second term but only will get halfway through the four years because of redistricting, is seeking his third term on the board.

Malecha said he's eager to get campaign season rolling and to continue the work he has done for the past six years.

“I try to bring compromise for the betterment of the communities and county,” he told Northfield Patch.

Malecha already has one challenger for his seat on the county board. Jeff Quinnell, whose term on the Northfield School Board ends this year, has filed to run for District 2, according to the Northfield News.

Following , Northfield has gone from three representatives at the county level to two.

The majority of Northfield falls in the new District 2, which contains five of the seven precincts in Rice County. Northfield's Ward 4, Precinct 2 and Ward 2, Precinct 1 will be represented by District 1. 

Incumbent District 1 Commissioner Jake Gillen is expected to seek re-election.

Filing runs through June 5.

Candidates for county offices can file with the Rice County Auditor-Treasurer at the Rice County Government Services Building, 320 Third Street N.W., Suite 5, Faribault, MN 55021.
