UPDATED: Nine Candidates in Running for Open Northfield Council Seat

The appointed person starts his one-year term on Jan. 1, 2012.

UPDATED: 5:14 p.m. A ninth candidate submitted an application late Tuesday.

The city now has nine candidates to fill the soon-to-be vacated seat of Councilor Kris Vohs, whose resignation is official Dec. 31.

If appointed, the new councilor serves from Jan. 1, 2012 through Dec. 31, 2012. The at-large council seat is part of the 2012 election.

Candidates are, in alphabetical order:

  • Thomas J. Bisel
  • David DeLong
  • Jon Denison
  • Joe Gasior
  • Charles Michael Hayes
  • David Ludescher
  • Sean Daniel Hayford Oleary
  • Ivan Imms
  • Don McGee

Imms submitted an application last week. Denison, Gasior, Hayford Oleary and McGee all submitted applications on Monday. Bisel, DeLong, Hayes and Ludescher submitted applications Tuesday, which was the final day they could be turned in.

Denison was elected to the council in 2006 but was not reelected in 2010. DeLong and Ludescher also previously served on the council.

Applicants must confirm that they are qualified for appointment by meeting the requirements:

  • The applicant is a resident of Northfield,
  • Is qualified to vote in Northfield,
  • Is at least 21 years of age, and
  • Meets any other qualifications for the office prescribed by law.

Applicants are asked to state:

  • Why they are interested in the appointment;
  • Their education, training and/or experience that is relevant to the appointment;
  • Indicate their availability for an interview by the Council on either December 5 or 12, 2011.
