Council Sets Preliminary 2013 Levy at 7.55% Increase; Budget Up 2.8%

A preliminary number means the city cannot increase any of its levies or budget when they finalize the numbers in December. The levies and budget, however, can be finalized at a lower number than what they were set at Tuesday.

The  on Tuesday approved its preliminary 2013 total levy and budget—both increases.

  • The total levy approved by the City Council is $7,774,635 and will increase by $546,026 or 7.55 percent in 2013. Of this increase, $451,505 or 83 percent is due to the new debt for the new and construction on the current facility. That number also includes the EDA and HRA levies. The increase projected for 2014 is 3.6 percent.
  • The EDA levy will decrease from 2012 by $14,768 or 6.6 percent to a total of $206,616
  • The HRA levy will decrease from 2012 by $25,401 or 10.7 percent to a total of $210,833
  • Total expenditures for the General Fund for next year are $10,361,435, representing an increase of 2.8 percent compared to the 2012 adopted budget.
  • Set a public hearing for the levies and budget on Dec. 4.
