Vandalism Spree Hits Several Cars, Houses in Northfield

About 12 pieces of property were tagged with graffiti.

The Northfield Police Department is investigating a vandalism spree that occurred late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning that left several cars and houses tagged with profane graffiti.

Deputy Chief of Police Chuck Walerius suspects high-schoolers, bored on spring break and with a score to settle, are the likely culprits.

Walerius said most of the houses and vehicles spray painted with profane language and genitalia were property connected with other students. In all, about 12 pieces of property were tagged with graffiti.

In all cases, the nature of the graffiti were similar and the color of the paint were the same, Walerius said.

"All of them are related, we believe," he said.

Officers have interviewed and continue to interview those targeted by the graffiti. Walerius said some evidence has already been collected, leads are being followed and dots are quickly connecting.

"We look for that common denominator," he said. "We'll find it. I don't have a doubt in my mind."

Because the combined damage is expected to be greater than $1,000, the crime is considered a felony.

Anyone with information related to the vandalism spree is asked to called the Northfield Police Department at 507-663-9494.
