The men had been in the upstairs part of the building after entering through a roof hatch, Walerius said, when an employee heard a noise and inspected. When confronted by the worker, Kenow and Sullins forced the employee to help find cash. Walerius said the two left after failing to find any money.

While on the way to the burglary call, an officer pulled over a car that was speeding by the area, Walerius said. The employee positively identified one of the men in the car as one of the alleged burglars from the store.

Kenow and Sullins, both of Faribault, are being held in Rice County Jail and will likely be arraigned Tuesday, an official with the Rice County Attorney's Office said. The men were arrested for first-degree burglary and have not been formally charged as the Northfield Police Department finalizes its report.

If charged with first-degree burglary, the men each face up to 20 years in prison and/or a $35,000 fine.

Kenow has previously been convicted of three moving violations and paid a $100 fine for disorderly conduct, according to Minnesota Courts records.

Sullins has no criminal record.

Walerius said it's the second time in about a month that Northfield Optical & Eye has been burglarized. Money was taken in the previous incident.
