The community of Northfield was a party to all types of news over the past week. Northfield Patch reported on everything from schools that excel and lean small businesses to whiz kids and the changing face of the Northfield demographic.

Ben Hellerstein, a  student and member of the Minnesota Public Interest Research Group, says Minnesota can't pass a voter photo identification requirement. On Monday, Hellerstein told the Senate's Local Government and Elections Committee that it needs to dismiss SF0479 and SF0509, two bills aimed at requiring ID for voters at polling places.

Northfield Patch partnered with the folks at the  to bring Patch viewers a weekly look at preparations for the ever popular Rock 'n' Roll Revival. With more than 100 students, 32 songs and hours upon hours of preparation for the show, there was plenty to cover.

Agents from the Rice County Drug Task Force (DTF) on Wednesday arrested Northfield resident Luther Louis Brown, 32, on one count of selling narcotics in a school zone and five additional counts of sales or possession of narcotics.

A Northfield man faces a felony drug charge after police allegedly found nearly 16 grams of marijauna in his vehicle. In the backseat was an infant child. Samuel Daniel Pettet, 32, was pulled over March 8 by Northfield Police because the tint on his vehicle's windows were too dark, according to the criminal complaint filed in Rice County District Court.
